Sometimes there's just a picture you like that you can't explain why, there's just something about it. Anyways, this is one of them.

The Chicago fireworks display just concluded.
For the record, the soundtrack (sponsored on WGN by Hummer) consisted of:
Livin' on a Prayer - Bon Jovi
American Woman - The Guess Who
Don't Stop The Music - Rhianna
Let's Go Crazy - Prince
Mr. Brightside - Killers
Love Song - Sara Bareilles
Clocks - Coldplay
The Sweet Escape - Gwen Stefani
I Don't Wana Be In Love - Good Charlotte
Stronger - Kayne West
Black Horse & The Cherry Tree - KT Tunstall
How Far We've Come - Matchbox Twenty
I think it's great that Chicago, a city of ethnic diversity, can be united in this way, with over a million people wishing they were playing Sousa, Cohan, and maybe a little Gershwin and Copeland.
Oh well, have to do it myself, I suppose. Over to you, Mr. Cagney...

Warnings: Um... Possible cursing, nudity, other stuff.... capslocky humor, maybe? I dunno.
Haven't blogged in a few days. Nothing terribly exciting. The wordcount slows to a trickle mid-week because my brain activity slows to a trickle. I'm hoping to get some good page-count this weekend so I can get this off my desk and concentrate on other things.
And...that's all I got for now.

So. In about a month (WOOOT!) the next Weather Warden novel, GALE FORCE, is due in the stores. And next week, I'll open up a cool new contest to celebrate!
In the meantime, though, I thought, what would Joanne be doing right now?
Why, she'd be looking over the New York 2008 Couture shows.
( Warning: really fugly dresses, some pretty nice ones, and plenty of snark behind the cut ... loads of pictures, warning! )
... and so, we come to the end of our show. Thank you, folks, and be sure to tip your bartenders as you cry into your beer to try to make yourself forget the horrors you've seen here today. And remember: friends don't let friends wear Gaultier. Not that any of us could afford to, anyway.
If you want to check out all the shows, here's the link:

Wear eye protection. Therapy may also be helpful.

Set it up to have UPS hold any packages meant to be delivered until the 7th since I wasn't going to be home. Found out yesterday that they were still trying to deliver. Made sure the apt. manager wasn't refusing UPS packages and learned they hadn't even tried to leave them there. Left note saying to leave it there. Went back today to look for something for someone, and saw the "final delivery attempt" notice, saying I had to pick it up in person.
Problem A: IT'S THIRTY MINUTES ONE WAY.
Problem B: The pickup station is only open 4-7. Most days, I go to work at 7, meaning I wouldn't get to go get it until Wednesday.
Solution: call UPS to schedule a redelivery. Except that UPS has an automated system that wants you to talk to it, instead of letting you push buttons. About the 10th time it asked me to repeat myself, I resulted to a keypad smash, which got me to a human being. Who then asked for my name and phone number about 5 times. And doesn't seem to be at all sure that they'll redeliver it on Tuesday.
ETA: Retagging your LJ is a pain. Just FYI.

After her mother’s death, sixteen-year-old Gemma Doyle’s family returns to England. Having lived in India all her life, Gemma often fought with her mother about being allowed to go to school in England, including the night her mother died. When she arrives in Spence Academy in London, however, her experiences are far from what she had expected. Her roommate, Ann, is a “charity case” who is looked down on by the other girls for both her status and her stutter, Gemma herself is “odd” for her foreigner status, and Gemma also has visions with a bad habit of coming true. Two of the girls who bully Gemma and Ann, Felicity and Pippa, however, soon become their friends.
Not long after her arrival, Gemma acquires the diary of Mary Dowd, a student of Spence Academy from twenty-five years before. In her diary, Mary tells of how she and her friend, Sarah, became involved in something called The Order and learned witchcraft. Soon, Gemma and her friends are following in Mary and Sarah’s footsteps, as well as becoming obsessed with the mystery of the two girls, and what happened to them. In addition, a young man named Kartik has followed Gemma from India, for reasons relating to her mother’s death.

Saw the Power Pack science lesson over on
scans_daily, and immediately thought this scene needed iconning, and some over there agreed with me. I was indifferent on what some folks did, so went ahead and made my own. =)
There's enough sciencey content that I post here that I can justify it...
I've also temporarily added some art from Mike Mayhew's painted work on the Jean Grey origins one shot, but I dunno what I'll use that for yet. But it's pretty.
